Long Biography, my personal experience with Pilates

In 2004, aged 35, an art gallerist in Berlin, I started suffering from numerous "Paralysis attacks". Though I had suffered since my adolescence with a strong scoliosis, I had always managed to stay fit by practising a lot of sports. After visiting a few specialized doctors, I was left with the conclusion that I should go through a spinal operation in the coming 2 years. Apart from pain-killer pills and physiotherapy, no other medication could really help me. At that time I was travelling to New York to take part in an Art Fair, stuffed with pain-killers in order to be able to walk. That was where I met one of my old friends who recommended me to try out some Pilates Classes. Back in Berlin, I started taking my first private classes at the studio Arcoverde, run by Eduardo Laranjera (Certifed by Romana Kryzanowska). After 3 private trainings, my back pains had mostly disappeared and my passion for "Contrology" (as Joseph Pilates had called his discipline) was born This was the beginning of my life transformation and after 3 years of intensive and regular training, Eduardo suggested to me to take part in the Teacher Training Programm of the Pilates Zentrum Berlin and become a Pilates Instructor.

His proposal arrived at the right moment as I was ready for a life change and done with the " Art World". I was convinced of the importance of the Pilates Method and its impact on human's health.

The Peak Pilates Professionnal Teacher Training was considered one of the most serious at that time. It could be done in one year in its more compact version, and I got my professionnal Peak Certification in December 2007.
However, despite the fullness and preciseness of the Peak Teacher Training and the hours of teaching, I was still left with a lot of questions on the diversity of human bodies and best way to "Return them to Life".

I decided to move to London and enter the team of the famous Pilates Room, were they were offering already " Certified Instructors" a Continuing Education, to become Master Trainers, as well as work and salary.

Beside the large amount of working hours, sometimes up to 10 hours teaching a day, we were continuing to develop our knowledge of the Pilates Method with Linda Zurak, responsible for the Continuing Education Programm of the Pilates Room. Linda introduced us to 2 main themes as teachers.

"The Art of Teaching", as developed by The Pilates Center, Boulder, Colorado, that was producing the best teachers of the world, known as th "Harvard of Pilates" and the "Landmark Formum", a group Therapy, to clear our personnal self-confidence issues, to become better teachers.

We learned a lot from Linda Zurak, who had also completed the Teacher Training Programm of The Pilates Center, Boulder, Colorado. The Pilates Room organized a workshop with Amy Taylor-Alpers, who together with
her sister Rachel, runs The Pilates Center, Boulder, Colorado. The encounter with Amy Alpers-Taylor was the most crucial one for my development as an Instuctor, and I decided to find a way to take part and graduate from the Teacher Training Programm of Boulder, Colorado.

And so I started in September 2008, the one year Program of The Pilates Center. As a long distance student, I had to travel there at least 5 times and pass 3 series of very rigorous exams. During this time, I was teaching in Paris at the Core Body Pilates, where Cindy Fumei, the owner gave me the opportunity to give my first workshops for teachers. I kept training with great teachers in Europe, Kelly Moriarty and Sally Lebheart in Paris
and Laura Blackburn-Sorrenti in Orvieto; In Boulder with Leah Wechsler, Dina Mendes and Deborah Kowley and in perticular Amy and Rachel Taylor. Most recently, I completed the ’Passing the Torch™‘ program with Amy Alpers as mentor. taught at the Pilates Center by the Balanced Body University (Passing the Torch™) and completed in 2011.

In September 2009, I graduated from the Pilates Center, Boulder, Colorado.

As first German, certified by the Pilates Center, Boulder, Colorado, I decided to return to Berlin to open my own Studio.

I want to use my experience to "Return to life" as many people as possible (Return to Life through Contrology, J.H Pilates) as the Pilates Method had allowed me to do for myself.

I thank all my teachers for all they gave me. I thank those who believed in me and those who didn't.
